Why I’m Writing This
“What problem are you trying to solve?”
Anyone who has worked with me has heard me say this countless times. Too often in my career, overeager colleagues across multiple functions ask, “Can we do X, Y, or Z?” I always tell them, “The answer to the can question is almost always yes, but first, tell me, what problem are you trying to solve?”
Entrepreneurship (and Life!) isn't about solving problems for problem's sake. It's about creatively solving the right problems.
You see, software is complex. Building a company is complex. Life is complex. And the more that we hyper-focus on the how—getting it done, going from point A to point B—the more we lose sight of the forest for the trees, potentially solve the wrong problem, and miss out on the creative breakthroughs, deep insights, and more that just come if you can state what the problem is…
More About Me
I am Founding General Partner of super{set} and a serial entrepreneur and technology leader who has built industry-leading companies in enterprise software, data management, analytics, and machine learning/AI over the last 25 years.
Prior to starting super{set}, I was CTO of Salesforce Marketing Cloud after joining Salesforce via the acquisition of Krux, a mar-tech platform that I co-founded with Tom Chavez in 2010. Before Krux, I served as the CTO of Rapt, a software provider for media monetization acquired by Microsoft in 2008.
I have an MS in Mathematics and Computer Applications from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and an MS in Computer Science from the University of Denver.
I’m originally from Delhi - and I still fee like a local! - and today I live in San Francisco with my Pallavi and son Viplav. I’m the co-author of Data Driven: Harnessing Data and AI to Reinvent Customer Engagement, published in 2018.
